I oppose this bill because it uses local taxes which would ordinarily fund the local schools. The vouchers would take those locally raised tax revenues and spend them possibly in other districts, on schools or activities over which the local school has no supervision or control. The educational standards are not monitored, the money is just given. Meanwhile local school districts have standards and accountability. The priority for my tax dollars is for them to go to local public schools. The local schools engage the community and are part of the community. There is little to no accountability involved with the voucher program, which takes money away from local schools. This bill wants to take even more money from public schools by raising the amount that can be obtained. My vote is a resounding no, and i'd like to have the voucher program eliminated altogether.
