Right wing extremists in our legislature are once again pushing "local EFAs" - in this case, school vouchers that would be twice as big as current ones, with half their cost coming from the state and the other half coming directly from property taxes we’ve raised for our community public schools. Where would our money go? To parents to pay for home schooling costs or for tuition at private or religious schools, many of which have discriminatory policies, meaning some of us will be subsidizing with our tax dollars schools that will discriminate against our own children. No accountability, no transparency - all the same problems we've heard about our current voucher program, with disastrous consequences for public education. That means thousands and thousands of hard-earned tax dollars being plucked right out of your local school budget coffers and being given to individuals who owe your town no accountability whatsoever.
