I oppose HB 748 because it unfairly shifts the burden of funding private or home school vouchers onto local communities. Local property taxes are meant to support public schools, which are essential for all students, not just a select few. By using local funds to support private education options, we are depriving public schools of necessary resources. Additionally, there is no guarantee that this bill will improve educational outcomes for our children—without proper accountability, it's unlikely that private institutions will be held to the same standards as public schools. This bill will only exacerbate inequalities and further divide our education system.
