The decision to terminate a pregnancy is never an easy one. However, I did make that choice when I became pregnant at age 41. I had just learned that my 3 year old child had been born with insufficient kidneys, and would require a kidney transplant as he grew. I knew that he would need more medical care and I was concerned about having another child at my age. Fortunately, at the time, it was not a crime to terminate a pregnancy. My doctor listened to my concerns, and agreed to end the pregnancy by D and C. I did not have to travel a long distance for the procedure. There was no picket line, no shame or public intrusion into the decision. It was not an easy decision, but it was the best decision for my family and me at the time. I would like all women to be supported in making such a decision when needed.
