As a lifelong citizen of NH with a small farm, I fully support this bill and I encourage its passage by all members of this committee. Current local butchering facilities are absolutely overwhelmed and many animals (along with NH farmers' money) are taken out of state for processing. In addition, for anyone needing meat processing, dates often must be reserved a year or more in advance, sometimes even before the animal is born, a gamble that not everyone can to afford to take. Adopting this would open up many more options for NH farmers and help boost our economy by keeping more of the money spent to process the animals within NH and by increasing the sales of locally-raised meats.
