Maureen Quinn | Oppose HB317

As a Supervisor of the Checklist in my town for the last nine years, I am very concerned about this bill. This is legislation in search of a problem that does not exist and only serves to disenfranchise legitimate voters. Do the sponsors of this bill truly mean to imply that Supervisors of the Checklist, who are elected election officials, cannot be trusted to verify the identity of voters who they personally know to be who they say they are and who are registered voters of that jurisdiction? I find this implication insulting and ridiculous. No Supervisor would abuse this responsibility- we are elected public servants. We take our obligation to ensure fair and free elections, without abuse, to be critical to our job and our integrity. This bill does not address an actual problem in NH elections. It should be voted down.
