When I first read this bill, I exclaimed to myself "Oh my God!" It is crazy to me that laws must be put into place that prevent teachers from skipping over critical components of history, like discrimination, and for businesses to repeal the right to freedom from discrimination in the workplace. The fact that this conversation is evening happening at the statewide level makes me believe that society is moving backwards in time to the era before the Civil Rights movement began. An era in which colonialism, discrimination, sexism, and prejudice ran rampant. While it still does today, I would like to believe that an individual's right to the 14th amendment have been preserved through legislation such as the Civil Rights Act. Undermining it would undermine the pillar of freedom upon which American society is based. Hence, I support HB50.
