I strongly oppose this bill. Diagnostic tests play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of both students and staff. These tests include blood glucose monitoring, COVID-19 rapid tests (which were previously utilized for an extended period), blood pressure screenings, concussion assessments, and potentially other evaluations. It is important to note that while school nurses are not authorized to independently diagnose medical conditions, they utilize diagnostic tests to identify potential health issues. This allows them to refer students to healthcare providers for further evaluation and treatment. As a school nurse, our main focus is to secure parental consent prior to starting any treatment for students. With access to diagnostic tests, we can provide more effective care for our students and connect them with the appropriate individuals and interventions needed for necessary support.
