Kerry Dennis | Support HB704

Dear Committee I am writing in support of NH HB 704, which aims to improve support and resources for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease. My personal experience underscores the necessity of this legislation. My mother battled Alzheimer's for 18 years, a long and painful journey that ended in 2020. For the first 10 years, my father took on the responsibility of being her primary caregiver, providing her with unwavering love and attention. The duties he performed were exhaustive and constant. We often worried that we would lose him as the toll of caring for her had a significant impact on his health. When my mother’s condition progressed beyond what could be managed at home, we made the heartbreaking decision to admit her to full-time nursing care. Even then, my father remained deeply involved in her care, spending hours daily with her and advocating for her needs. In 2024, I was diagnosed with early-onset, early-stage Alzheimer's. I understand the journey ahead and the toll it will take on my loved ones. The emotional, physical, and financial burdens of caregiving are immense. Without adequate support, many families struggle to provide the necessary care. NH HB 704 offers hope for those in similar situations, proposing measures that could alleviate some burdens on caregivers and ensure patients' better quality of life. I urge you to pass this bill and make a significant difference in the lives of families affected by Alzheimer’s. Thank you for your consideration.
