I am an America Reads volunteer with AmeriCorp Senior RSVP. I have been volunteering in a local 2nd grade for eight years and feel this is a very worthwhile program.. The goal is to make sure children are reading well by 3rd grade and our program is working because we spend extra time with struggling readers and they are not only able to progress but realize that reading is fun and exciting. The children are excited to see me each week and the hands go up as soon as I come into the classroom Teachers and parents also appreciate the extra help and it is very rewarding for the volunteers. Please fund this program to make sure all our young children are proficient readers. Thank you!
