Susan Raymond | Support HB704

I was my mother's caregiver near the end of her life and I can attest to how nearly impossible it was for me, all alone, to succeed at giving her the care deserved. I had no support system in her home town and she was over 90 so her friends were already dead. Had it not been for the help I received because she was a Massachusetts resident, I would have failed. If I have a problem at my end of life, I am old now, I will not have the services in NH that she had in MA. We need to invest in senior services in this state, which is woefully behind in all aspects (including the minimum wage issue!!!). I tried to get help to travel to and from my surgery appointments recently and only found one option for $400. for one trip. I can never afford to do that again. I found no help with the present volunteer organizations. Volunteer organizations need help to get started! Especially now that the federal cutbacks will be hurting this community of elderly people. Many of us live alone and have no family to help. We need options to continue to live in our homes.
