Before moving to NH in 2021, I was a volunteer mediator in NY for the Long Island Dispute Resolution Center. Our nonprofit had been integrated into the NY court system for small claims, custody issues, landlord/tenant issues, and general conflict resolution. In family cases, nobody wins when adversity is the goal, but adversity is a founding principle of our court system. Having a center focused on mediation would be a powerful way to provide true help to families in need and avoid the legal costs and court overhead of traditional divorce.
