I am fairly certain that, given a choice, the vast majority of citizens in nursing homes or elder care facilities would prefer NOT to be there. They are there because they need assistance with daily activities. Anything we can do as community members and, particularly legislative representatives to make things easier for this population should be our primary objective. Taking away the right for elected and appointed local officials to carry out a proven safe absentee voting process goes against all of that. Have some respect for our elder population and allow them the right and dignity to fulfill their civic obligation, as they have always done, through this secure absentee process. I oppose this bill as unnecessary and adding nothing to the high security and integrity of our current NH Election process. We should not be making it more difficult for citizens to vote in our elections.
