Supervisors of the Checklist see proof of domicile when a person registers to vote. If EVERYONE who wants to vote who is already on the checklist has to be sent to us for verification of domicile, all we would do is check our records and send them back to the ballot clerks. Proofs were already checked when the person registered. We will also be registering new voters at the same time. At the November 5, 2024 election, Durham registered over 2400 new voters. How are we also supposed to verify the addresses of another 8,000 people who already went through the registration process? This will be very time consuming. It could be one great way to cut down on the numbers of people who decide to vote at a given election because of all the extra time it will take. It is also a great way to inspire current Supervisors of the Checklist to quit. Also, the Ballot Clerks have enough to do, checking people’s IDs, changing addresses, changing party if it is a primary, without also having to check the domicile address of everyone that comes to them. They have a difficult enough time remembering everything they need to do as it is.
