Dear Committee Members, I am writing to express my strong opposition to HB 635FN. This bill would remove non-profit status from organizations which provide assistance to undocumented immigrants in our state. It is not the business of the state legislature to punish charitable organizations for providing services to people in need, regardless of who they are or where they were born. This bill is an obvious attempt to harm these organizations by both causing them to lose revenue from donations and through taxation. If we allow our government to limit how and whether we help our fellow human beings in need, we create a society which forces people to be cruel and uncaring to others. There is enough of that kind of behavior in our communities already and my elected officials must not add to it. I have been a healthcare provider in this state most of my professional life, since earning my nursing degree here in 1998, and am currently a nurse midwife who cares for families from many backgrounds at Dartmouth Health. We do not discriminate in the care that we provide for our patients and no organization should be penalized for treating clients with compassion and providing assistance to others when help is needed. I respectfully urge you to vote this bill Inexpedient to Legislate. Daisy Goodman, CNM, DNP Lyme, NH 03768
