When I was young, my pregnant mother discovered her very much wanted pregnancy was non-viable and a threat to her life and her future fertility. We lived in a place where doctors could, and did, consciously object to providing care and as a result she had to search for, travel to, and undergo treatment without her family or supports while grieving the loss of a child and fearing for her own life and for her possible future children. This was not only deeply traumatic for her, but for my young self, my father, my grandparents. This is no way to treat people. It changed my life in difficult ways which could have been minimized. Access to rapid, appropriate and necessary care is imperative to family wellness and while I was lucky she was able to find medical care and recover to continue growing my family, that is not a possibility for so, so many of our citizens. This Bill does not support family care and wellness.
