Thank you for considering this important legislation. I strongly support this bill, and hope that you will as well. It presents a common sense approach to siting new landfills, that is based on data and sound science. Most landfills leak and have leachate spills (and the leachate is filled with toxic chemicals including the "forever" PFAS). Such leaks will be more apt to occur with the severe storms and abnormally heavy rainfall we're seeing more frequently with climate change. It is important to protect our environment, and especially the clean water we rely on for drinking and recreation. This bill provides another layer of protection for our precious clean water supplies. Basing setbacks on the time it would take for a leak to reach the nearest water body allows mitigation of the leak before the clean water becomes contaminated. That protects all of us, and our beautiful environment. Please strongly support this bill. Thank you.
