Paul Grenier | Oppose HB219

My name is Paul Grenier and I am a City Councilor from the City of Berlin. I previously served for 14 years as mayor of our city and have been involved in our local government for 31 consecutive years. I rise in opposition to HB219. The phase out of the RPS statute is unnecessary and given the uncertainty in federal energy and trade policy, endangers the availability and pricing for NH energy consumers. Class I biomass generation is baseload power and the other class biomass generators are critical to power availability. Endangering the economic viability of NH's homegrown power generation will only serve to make NH more dependent on fossil fuels with no hedge to protect NH business and consumers. Biomass power is also a large contributor to the state's economy and tax revenue, as is the various large wind power generators. This bill makes no sense to the longterm economic viability to our state and would put the final nail in Coos County's economy.
