I am in support of School Districts establishing Parent Advisory Councils so that parents/caregivers of children receiving special education services are better supported and informed of laws and regulations. When I first moved to NH five years ago, I inquired at my new district if there’s a parent group to seek out support and resources. That district was not helpful. I could have used support from other parents/caregivers as I navigated a new district and a new state. My family and I faced years of challenges in finding the appropriate support and accommodations for my child. He is now thriving with his education. I would like nothing more than to support other families and kiddos who have been where we have. No one should have to go through what my family and I did when we moved to New Hampshire and faced years of fighting for my son’s right to an appropriate education.
