Good Morning. I am writing in the express my opposition to the proposed bill HB 254. Life is given by God and is not ours to take - this is why murder is wrong. Whether it is the murder of someone else or oneself, it is not our place to decide that. Additionally, there are many people who struggle with depression & other mental and physical struggles - will all of them eventually be “fair game” and have the option to bow out of life? What about the family & friends they leave behind?! Each life touches another…. The perseverance through difficulties is what makes life beautiful and rewarding, why rob people of that? And eventually, when society decays further, will not those in power then take one more step to decide who lives and dies?! - They most certainly will! How do you know that you won’t fall victim to this growing ideology that death is the answer to life’s problems? Canada started down this path a few years ago, and it was said at the time to only be for those who are terminally ill. This past year, however, it accounted for 5% of the deaths in Canada and was recommended to people who encountered financial difficulties; we’re homeless; and even a military vet! ~ This IS where these policies lead…. To an increased societal pressure to “make good or off yourself”! It’s shocking and should not be permitted!
