My poultry farm was awarded just under $1000 last year from this grant program. My desire is to move away from reliance on globally produced grains which is becoming unsustainable from an ecology and cost standpoint. I am learning more about reducing consumption of grain feed and creating a more resilient farm. I want this Committee to know that through the RCCD Climate Resilient Grant Program, I am receiving so much more than the money. As part of the grant, I was encouraged to reach out to our state’s resources (such as UNH Extension or RCCD) for assistance. This encouraged networking and resulted in a better project and proposal. As I move through my project I am required to share my learnings with others. I do this through social media and at farmers markets where I share knowledge with consumers and other farmers. This year I will also participate in class at UNH in which students meet and work with a real farmer (ME!) to create financial sheets. The application process was very straight forward, and it was (and is!) clear to me that the RCCD and their colleagues in other agencies put a lot of thought in the design of this program which has far reaching benefit. Let’s keep this grant going in NH. Thank you for your time and consideration!
