Cruel, painful, and unnecessary procedure that leads to a lifetime of physical and emotional pain and suffering cats. There is no medical reason for this, if an owner can’t handle a cat scratching at rugs or furniture, or be willing to learn other ways to manage that, they shouldn’t have a cat. It’s the equivalent of getting your fingertips amputated from the last knuckle up.
