I am concerned that in the recent past there have been efforts to allow the siting of landfills without a methodical, thorough and scientifically based assessment of their safety. Since all landfills eventually leak, it is crucial to study carefully the nature of the soil involved and the proximity to drinking water resources, among other factors. This bill would facilitate more careful evaluations of landfill sitings and therefore protect the public from the dangers to health from speedy and impulsive decision-making.
