Emissions from fossil fuels contribute to the damaging effects of climate change. In the north country, we’ve experienced a loss in revenue due to lack of snow for the ski industry (both alpine and cross country). This has a trickle down effect affecting hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets to name just a few areas of impact. Working for a non-profit, we’ve had to cancel winter outdoor recreation/education programs, resulting in lost revenue. Excessive flooding during both spring and winter thaws have resulted in damage to property (building and basement flooding, damaging foundation and heating systems) and damaging property and landscaping including damage to plants, bushes and trees. Excessive erosion from the flooding has altered ecosystems, impacted biodiversity, and resulted in excessive sediment in marshlands.The fossil fuels industry needs to be part of the solution and /or held accountable rather than continuing to contribute to the problem.
