I live in Pittsburg and work at a local campground from the middle of May through the end of September. Many of our campers come to enjoy the local activities of fishing and ATVing. Unfortunately when the atv trails close on Sept.30th (only in Pittsburg) our campground and other businesses in the area see a definite decrease in business. Therefore my hours get cut back. I am a retiree and the income I receive from my employment during this time of year helps me to pay my bills through out the year. If we could have the ATV season extended to include the Columbus Day weekend I would be guaranteed my job thru that time period, which would allow me to receive additional income I need to help with my expenses. Not only am I effected with my job but so are many other residents who are employed at local stores. restaurants, and businesses that rely on atvers for additional income during this time period. As you should be well aware of, there are limited employment opportunities here in the north country and tourism is our biggest employer. I find it interesting that it is the State of NH limiting this opportunity to the residents of Pittsburg and other towns that abut Pittsburg, to receive additional income in an area of such low employment opportunities.
