Hello, My family produces and sells maple syrup. We and the twelve people who work for us are dependent on a stable climate for the continued ability to produce maple syrup now and into the future when our children are old enough to take over the business. The climate crisis has already changed the period of time when the sap runs. Climate change is also harming the trees by increasing the number of pests who thrive in a warmer climate, decreasing the snow cover which insulates the maple trees' roots to protect them from the cold and increasing the bitter Arctic air resulting from a destabilized jet stream. In any given year, the droughts, floods, bitter cold, and intense heat that we are experiencing in New Hampshire are making life harder and maple syrup production harder. I cannot invest in my business when I don't even know whether the maple trees will be here in the near future. In 1977 Exxon Mobil knew the dangers of burning fossil fuels and started a disinformation campaign to keep the world dependent on these polluting energy sources. Fast forward forty eight years later and we are all suffering the consequences of this intentional cover-up. HB106 is a start to getting recompense for our suffering. I SUPPORT HB106. Thank you.
