Climate change is happening now. It feels very stark for me in terms of no longer being able to reliably go cross-country skiing or ice skating. Last winter in Concord, the ponds never froze so that people could go ice skating, the entire winter. It has also been a gamble the whole winter whether there will be skiing conditions. Many ski areas have had to implement man made snow. I know of a ski area in Maine that closed because the snow is so unreliable. Climate change has had much more catastrophic effects for other people, such as a river storm surge washing away so much the home of a fellow hiker in the hiking community that their home cannot even be repaired. They have to move. Climate change is going to continue to have increasingly catastrophic impacts on our community, on people's lives, and on our economy. To be able to ensure the vitality of our community, we are going to be need to be able to determine the costs of climate change for our state. The cost of climate change needs to be factored in so we can protect and balance our state budget as well, a concern that is top of mind for many Granite Staters. Please support HB106.
