NH must get ahead fiscally on the climate damage that we will certainly suffer from in the coming years. Whether or not we manage to transition to a zero carbon economy by mid-century, we will see varying degrees of climate damage in the next several decades, due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, that will impact our state's economy, It is difficult to deny what is happening to our climate as our winters get shorter, there is less snow, the summers get hotter, and drought conditions or flooding happen in NH. Our infrastructure, transportation, social services, and more are already being impacted. A legislative commission is a proper setting to determine a likely range of estimates for the financial cost of climate damage and most crucially, the best means of recovering those costs, so that the communities are adequately positioned to adapt and mitigate to the extent possible.
