Background:

In July 2025, the Legislative Office Building (LOB) closed for the purpose of replacing the HVAC system, and other needed maintenance. The closure is expected to last through October 2026. All legislative business, staff and offices will be displaced from the LOB during this period. Funding was appropriated through the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to design and construct the new HVAC system in the LOB.

In 2023, as part of HB2, the legislature authorized the purchase of 1 Granite Place South, an office building approximately 1.5 miles away from the State House. Granite Place is an office complex that consists of two multi-level towers, North and South, which were once insurance and financial corporate offices. The Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture were relocated to the south building prior to the General Court’s build out.

The General Court space at Granite Place will consist of 10 committee rooms spread over parts of the two lower floors of the building.
