THE COMMITTEE ON Judiciary
to which was referred SB 270
AN ACT relative to allowing owners to gather items necessary for work from impounded vehicles.
Having considered the same, the committee recommends that the Bill
BE REFERRED TO INTERIM STUDY
BY A VOTE OF: 5-0
Senator Daryl Abbas
For the Committee
Senate Bill 270 would allow individuals to retrieve personal or work-related items, such as tools, from an impounded vehicle if accompanied by the vehicle’s owner. While the committee agreed with the intent to prevent undue hardship, members raised concerns about verifying ownership of retrieved property and the potential liability for towing companies. The Senate Judiciary Committee recommends the bill for Interim Study to allow further review of these issues and to consider clearer safeguards.
