THE COMMITTEE ON Commerce
to which was referred HB 1295
AN ACT relative to eligibility requirements for charitable and nonprofit housing projects.
Having considered the same, the committee recommends that the Bill
IS INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
BY A VOTE OF: 5-0
Senator Denise Ricciardi
For the Committee
This bill would have restricted eligibility requirements for charitable, nonprofit housing project tax exemptions. This tax preference has been unchanged since April 1992, and facilities throughout the state have relied on it when financing or deciding to build or renovate. Given the need for housing for seniors, and the far-reaching impact this would have on all nonprofit housing, the Committee believed this bill should be Inexpedient to Legislate.
