Senator Howard Pearl

For the Committee

This bill sought to direct the Department of Energy to investigate the vulnerability of electric transmission transformers and other system components to geomagnetic and electromagnetic disturbances, and to report its findings and recommendations.  As HB 1723 would authorize the Department to fund the cost of the investigation through a special assessment on electric utilities, thus passing the not to exceed cost of $350,000 onto ratepayers, the Senate Finance Committee recommended Interim Study on the bill.
