AN ACT relative to school bus stops.

ANALYSIS

 

This bill requires school districts, school bus operators, and bus drivers to locate stops and conduct operations in a manner that prevents students from crossing traffic lanes when boarding or exiting school buses.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Six

 

AN ACT relative to school bus stops.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Section; Prohibition on Crossing Traffic at School Bus Stops.  Amend RSA 265 by inserting after section 57 the following new section:  

265:57-a Prohibition on Crossing Traffic at School Bus Stops.  Each school district and school bus operator shall ensure that school bus stops are located so that boarding and exiting students do not cross any lane of traffic.  Bus drivers shall not permit children to cross a lane of traffic to or from the bus for any boarding or departing activity.  

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
